Preserving Federal Education Data: A Virtual Roundtable with Rep. Bonamici

On July 24, IHEP’s Director of Research and Policy Kim Dancy will join U.S. Representative Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR) and other national education experts for a virtual roundtable highlighting the critical role of federal education data and the Institute of Education Sciences (IES). Hosted by Rep. Bonamici, this timely conversation will examine the consequences of recent funding cuts and operational slowdowns at the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) including barriers to accessing and publishing research that informs student success.
Drawing from IHEP’s recent work, Kim will share how federal datasets like the National Postsecondary Study Aid Study (NPSAS) and the Beginning Postsecondary Students Longitudinal Study (BPS) enabled deep insights into the connections between family wealth, postsecondary experiences, and long-term student outcomes. She’ll also describe the major delays researchers now face due to disruptions in data access and review processes. Join us to learn why strong federal data systems are essential to advancing equity in higher education.
