Final product of Phase 1 of the study of higher education costs paid by institutions and prices paid by students and their families, and explores trends in revenue

In the 1998 Amendments to the Higher Education Act, Congress directed the National Center for Education Statistics to conduct a new study of higher education costs paid by institutions and prices paid by students and their families. This report is the final product of Phase 1 of the study, which relied primarily on existing national data and statistical models. Volume 1 of the study examines the relationship between costs and prices at groups of public and private not-for-profit institutions, and explores the potential association between financial aid and tuition, using data primarily from the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System. The study also explores trends in revenue and expenditure categories.
