Written for the Center for American Progress, this report examines how educational opportunities in multi-state metropolitan areas are often unaligned with regional economic and social needs due to state-orientated policymaking. One way to address this condition is for the federal government to play a larger role in coordinating a more regionally based approach to managing public postsecondary education in multi-state metropolitan areas.
