A case study of five public higher-education institutions focusing on how state policy affects developmental education and educational practice in New England

Continuing and expanding on research in developmental and remediation education in the United States, this study focuses on how state policy affects developmental education and educational practice in New England public institutions. Case studies of five public, higher education institutions in Massachusetts form the focus of this pilot study compiled from site visits, surveys, and focus groups. “Vignettes” of institutions in other New England states complete a mosaic of widely varying approaches and responses to state policy and demographic changes.
