Washington, D.C., Sept. 11, 2000— The Institute for Higher Education Policy is pleased to announce that Matthew W. Hamill has joined the organization as Senior Associate. A nationally-known expert on government tax policy and its impact on non-profit organizations, Hamill will work on a combination of issues related to The Institute's interests in higher education, including tax, infrastructure, governance, and other areas.

Hamill most recently served as Vice President, Public Policy for Independent Sector, a national leadership forum that works to encourage philanthropy, volunteering, not-for-profit initiative, and citizen action. Prior to his service at Independent Sector, Hamill was Vice President at the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities, a 900-member trade association representing private, non-profit colleges and universities. Hamill also is an experienced Capitol Hill staffer with an established reputation as an expert in tax, trade, and other public policy issues.

"With the addition of Matt Hamill, The Institute will significantly broaden its scope, addressing more fully the complex issues that confront higher education today," stated Jamie P. Merisotis, President of The Institute. "We are looking forward to benefitting from his experience and daily presence."
