IHEP Leads Coalition of 26 Organizations in Urging Congress to Maintain the U.S. Department of Education’s Higher Education Act Set-Aside Authority

Published Mar 22, 2023

WASHINGTON, DC (March 22, 2023) The Institute for Higher Education Policy led a coalition of 26 organizations in urging Congress to maintain the U.S. Secretary of Education’s authority to set aside up to 0.5% of funds from certain Higher Education Act (HEA) programs for data analysis, data collection, and rigorous evaluations. The letter, signed by education associations, civil rights groups, policy advocates, and researchers calls on Congressional appropriators to continue support for this set-aside authority. This important provision increases the U.S. Department of Education’s capacity to build evidence of effective practices to support the continuous improvement of HEA programs and ultimately improve students’ postsecondary success.
