IHEP and 60+ Organizations Urge Congressional Leaders to Fund Basic Needs

Washington, DC (May 20, 2025) – IHEP joined 60+ organizations and institutions urging Congress to allocate $45 million for the Basic Needs for Postsecondary Students Program in Fiscal Year 2026. As the only federally funded grant program that supports institutions in meeting students’ essential needs—including food, housing, childcare, transportation, and mental and physical health services—the program addresses widespread basic needs insecurity. The funding supports colleges and universities in developing campus-wide basic needs resources and services, strengthening institutional capacity to reduce barriers to student success and improve affordability, retention, and completion in higher education.
