2011 IHEP Symposium on Financial Literacy and College Success at Minority-Serving Institutions: Institutionalizing Approaches to Student Success
In partnership with USA Funds®, the 2011 Symposium on Financial Literacy and College Success at Minority-Serving Institutions (MSIs) addressed effective resources and institutional practices for MSIs to consider when developing financial literacy programs.
Designed to directly meet the needs of an institution’s current financial literacy programs and broader objectives, the event provided institutional teams time to work directly on new or refined financial literacy initiatives on their campuses. Workshops and presentations helped teams to enhance their proposed financial literacy plans, develop an implementation timeline, and consider assessment and sustainability components for their work. Attendees received one-on-one support from financial literacy experts throughout the duration of the event on issues including:
- Identifying best practices and interventions
- Incorporating assessment into financial literacy work
- Diversifying funding and revenue sources
- Integrating communication and advocacy strategies to garner widespread support
