IHEP and 40+ Organizations Urge Increased Funding for Child Care Access Program for Student Parents
Published Apr 23, 2026
Washington, DC (March 23, 2026) – IHEP joined more than 40 organizations in signing a letter organized by the Today’s Student Coalition that urges congressional appropriators to increase funding for the Child Care Access Means Parents in School (CCAMPIS) program in the Fiscal Year 2027 appropriations bill. The coalition, representing higher education, workforce, and advocacy organizations, highlights the critical role CCAMPIS plays in supporting the more than four million college students who are parents. The letter emphasizes that access to affordable child care is essential for student persistence and completion, noting that participants in CCAMPIS-supported programs have a persistence rate of 75 percent. Increased funding would expand access to child care assistance for thousands of parenting students from low-income backgrounds, helping them remain enrolled and complete their degrees. Without additional investment, many student parents may continue to face financial and caregiving barriers that threaten their ability to succeed in higher education.
