2010 IHEP Symposium on Financial Literacy and College Success at Minority-Serving Institutions: Institutional Practices to Support Student Success

The IHEP Symposium on Financial Literacy and College Success at Minority-Serving Institutions (MSIs) brings together college and university presidents, chief student affairs personnel, and financial aid representatives from colleges and universities serving students of color. IHEP’s goal for the symposium is to promote engaging discourse and present concrete ideas that build upon and complement institutional change already in progress on your campus. The symposium is funded by USA Funds, the nation’s largest guarantor of student loans.

The symposium will focus on linking institutional financial practices to student success strategies by drawing on model programs and practices at select MSIs. Several higher education leaders and experts will be on hand to discuss key issues such as best practices for mitigating financial constraints, increasing student retention, leveraging strategic partnerships, diversifying funding and revenue sources, and investing in direct services to support student success.

Given the high demand for participation in this symposium, institutions must commit to bringing a team of three senior-level administrators. These individuals must be able to assess and articulate the unique needs and concerns associated with MSIs.

Be sure to apply immediately because space is limited. Applicants are selected on a first-come, first-serve basis from a cross-section of MSIs representing Black, Hispanic, and Native American students.

NOTE: All travel expenses associated with each three-member team attending the symposium will be paid by IHEP.
