International Ranking Systems and Related Resources
Global institutional ranking systems are a new variation on the older idea of national rankings. These international rankings systems compare institutions across the world, reflecting the increasingly “flat” world of higher education. Such systems rely on research performance and reputation indicators due to limited cross-country comparative data. International ranking systems often intersect with global dialogue about “world class” universities, competition for students across national borders, and access to quality education for students within developing countries. Listed below are current international ranking systems, publications about this recent phenomenon, and information about disciplinary-specific international rankings.A subset of the international rankings is focused on the disciplines. International Disciplinary and Professional Ranking Systems are often national in scope; however, now there are a number of international ranking systems in this area.
